Repairing and inspection of 1 day Black Forest cuckoo clock.
Customer states clock fell off the wall and needed case repair and the clock was also non functional.
Customer shipped Clock with pendulum and case/works/music box only. All trim including topper, weights was removed and kept with customer before shipping.
upon inspection, the roof was broken in multiple spots and sheared in several places. This includes the centerline of the roof, where the roof attaches to the back and sides and some laminate. The top was then repaired after inspection.
After case repairs were made the mechanical parts of the clock were inspected. Chains were broken off off the music box and chainwheels of the movement. The chains were repaired and put back on both the movement and music box.
The movement and box were oiled after inspection. Both the movement and music box show some wear in the plates and governor as discussed with the customer. At this time customwr wishes to hold off on any rebuilds or repairs to these parts.
Clock tested for a week. Runs, cuckoos and plays music as it should. Tested with 320g weights.
Cuckoo door not opening correctly. Inspected door and wire. Wire was bent badly and replaced and adjusted.
when reinstalling the front trim, it is best to push those top brass up and partially out of the roof. Place the lower brads on the trim in the holes in the bottom front of the case, and then tap the top ones in the existing holes on the top of the front trim. If the trim is loose in the bottom you can add a small bit of removable glue to the Brad or a small spot between the trim and case.
The clock should be hung on the wall with the biggest screw head you could reasonably use that fits in the case. The screw should have a somewhat upward angle going into the wall so the clock cannot come off the wall.
the below link is to an app (not mine) to get your clcok "in beat" and ticking evenly when it is hung on the wall. It is used by holding your phone next to the clock in a quiet room and checking the percentage. You tilt the clock either left or right until you can get ideally to 100%.
make certain that the tail of the bird, is over the wire coming off on f the left bellows before hanging.
